Friday the 13th
It is fascinating how much superstition is associated with Friday the13th! And it stands with a stark contrast to it's predecessor - number 12. Twelve is seen as a whole, complete number - 12 days of Christmas, 12 months, 12 Zodiac Signs, 12 labours of Hercules...). And then comes the unfortunate 13! Even worse, Friday, the 13th! As history would have it, it has biblical roots...in the last supper...
Skip forward to the late-19th century. A New Yorker named Captain William Fowler sought to remove the enduring stigma surrounding the number 13 by founding an exclusive society called the Thirteen Club.
The group dined regularly on the 13th day of the month in room 13 of the Knickerbocker Cottage, a popular watering hole Fowler owned from 1863 to 1883. Before sitting down for a 13-course dinner, members would pass beneath a ladder and a banner reading “Morituri te Salutamus,” Latin for “Those of us who are about to die salute you.”
I decided to celebrate number 13! And to announce the celebration on Friday, the 13th! And so I am daring you to participate in your own 13 Punishments of Tantalus*! *he was eternally punished in Tartarus
13 Punishments of Tantalus is a bespoke four hour session during which, as your Goddess and Giantess I shall administer 13 different forms of punishment designed especially for you. If you are brave enough, contact me, and lets celebrate Friday, the 13th.
